About ISR Lessons

Types of ISR Lessons

ISR swim instruction is for children 6 months to 6 years with all one-on-one instruction. Lessons are conducted 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), at a maximum of 10 minutes a day, for approximately 6-8 weeks. Each child has their own lesson time daily. A set of Lessons is $750 per child, and lesson fees are collected in increments over your child’s course of lessons. What your child will learn with ISR Self-Rescue depends on his or her age and developmental readiness, but in all cases, at minimum, your child will learn to roll onto his or her back to float, rest, and breathe, and to maintain this position until help arrives.

Rollback to Float

Infants to Early Walkers

The rollback to float program teaches your baby to independently turn themselves onto their back if ever face down in the water to safely breathe, rest, and float on their back until help arrives. This skill set takes about 6 weeks to accomplish.

Swim - Rollback - Float

Early Walkers - 2 years

With swim-rollback-float lessons, your child can swim underwater until they need to breathe, roll to their back to rest, breathe, and float until rescued by an adult. This skill set takes about 6 weeks to accomplish.

Swim - Float - Swim

2-6 year olds

The swim-float-swim program teaches your child to swim underwater until they need to breathe, roll to their back for a few breaths until rested, then swim starting the sequence again until they reach the pool steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline. This skill set takes between 6-8 weeks to accomplish.

Refresher

After completing their ISR Self-Rescue skillset, refresher lessons are suggested every six months. As children grow, their skills will need to be adjusted to their new height and weight. Refreshers are highly recommended to refine their skills as they’ve most likely hit developmental milestones since the last time they’ve seen us. Since these skills are not new, refresher lessons are scheduled for two weeks. We encourage our returning swim families to partake in at least one refresher course 4-6 months after initial lessons are completed.

Maintenance

After completing their ISR Self-Rescue skillset, maintenance lessons help students to maintain their skills and confidence throughout the year. Ideally, maintenance lessons should be scheduled at intervals recommended by the instructor, ranging from once or twice a week to once a month.

ISR stands for Infant Swimming Resource. It is a company name, not a style of teaching survival swim.

ISR’s growth means that more children have the ISR skills to save their own life if they found themselves in the water alone. The only unfortunate by-product of our growth is the unprecedented surge in individuals who claim they are offering ISR when, in fact, they are not.
